Ron Lepinskas is a highly experienced litigator who has handled business disputes as both a senior executive and also a partner at two major law firms. Subjects have included re/insurance coverage, class action defense, liability, securities laws, RICO, accounting disputes, mass torts, intellectual property, antitrust, Section 1983, environmental pollution, and most every business tort.  Settings have included federal and state courts, arbitral forums, bankruptcy and receivership courts, administrative hearings, and internal investigations.

He has two decades of experience in resolving conflicts and trying commercial disputes.  He was a partner at DLA Piper for six years, and before then a partner for nine years at Lord, Bissell & Brook.  Clients have included major insurers and reinsurers, actuarial and accounting firms, major securities firms, a world-wide transportation company, well-known manufacturers, guaranty funds, and e-commerce companies.

Until recently, Ron was the Global Casualty & Liability Claims Manager for General Re Corporation.  He oversaw professional lines, general casualty lines, and workers’ compensation.  This involved managing thousands of claims valued at several billion dollars, and also cultivating expertise in these lines of business for delivery to clients and underwriters.

He graduated from the University of Chicago Law School with Honors, where he served on the Law Review and was also a Patino Fellow.  He also graduated from Dartmouth College, summa cum laude.  After college, he taught at Holy Angels School on Chicago's South Side.

He is licensed in Illinois, and has been admitted to the following federal courts: the trial bar for the Northern District of Illinois; the Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Circuits of Appeal; district courts in Alabama, California, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia; and the Supreme Court of the United States.  He has appeared in state courts in Illinois, New York, Arizona, Texas, and others.

  • Obtained dismissals of claims against insurers and reinsurers in federal and state courts, including RICO, fraud, antitrust, and Section 1983 claims.
  • Successfully managed putative class actions brought against insurers, reinsurers, and consumer-product companies in federal and state courts.
  • Successfully defended professional liability claims against actuarial, accounting, and other financial-service firms in federal, state, and arbitral forums.
  • Successfully litigated in receivership courts across the nation on behalf of financial-service firms, insurers, reinsurers, and guaranty associations.
